Miracle Material
A material with so many best-in-show rankings has naturally attracted plenty of attention from industry and academia alike, and money has been pouring into graphene research over the last few years. The European Commission, for example, announced this year that a consortium of graphene researchers had won one of two €1 billion ($1.3 billion) research awards to be doled out over the next ten years. (The other prize went to a project to simulate human brain function.) Last year, Lux Research, a strategy and research firm that focuses on new technologies, forecast that the $9 million market for graphene in 2012 would grow to a $126 million market by 2020.

The United States and China, which holds the world’s largest known graphite reserves, are at the forefront of a graphene-patenting bonanza, having filed 2,204 and 1,754 patents for the material, respectively. South Korea, propelled by Samsung’s quest to develop graphene-based computer chips, had filed 1,160 patents as of January. The United Kingdom, where graphene research first took off, initially lagged in terms of patenting.

In India graphite is available in Huge quantity!.To see an interview with Brian Cox, a physics professor at Manchester University, on the potential of graphene at Credit Suisse’s Asian Investment Conference this spring, click here.

How freewheeling Twitter became a money-spinning juggernaut?

how to realize your trading potential – Free eBOOK

(Reuters) - Around midnight on Christmas Eve of 2009, a handful of employees at Twitter received an unconventional holiday greeting from Dick Costolo, then the chief operating officer.

"It was an email that said, ‘We have to move really, really fast. There's no time to rest because we have a massive opportunity in front of us," recalled Anamitra Banerji, who headed the team that built Twitter's first advertising product. "It was kind of crazy because we were all on break, but that attitude was exactly what we needed at Twitter."

The company is now on the verge of fulfilling the opportunity Costolo foresaw as it prepares for the most highly anticipated initial public offering since Facebook's debut last May. The offering is expected to value Twitter at up to $15 billion and make its early investors, including Costolo, very wealthy indeed.

One of the delights of writing for The Enterprise Cloud Site is learning about things that sound unlikely but really do exist, like the Society for Printable Geography. The printable does not refer to traditional maps but to 3D printing, which renders geographical data into iPhone cases, pendants, earrings, and puzzles.

All this is made possible by Sculpteo, a company that combines 3D printing with a cloud engine.

What clever applications of 3D printing have you seen? Share your thoughts in the comments. For further reading,
